Trappist beer is made by or under the direction of Trappist monks Catholic order known as the OCSO (Ordo Cisterciensis Strictioris Observantiae).
Trappist name comes from the French town of La Trappe monastery where the original order. The order has more than 170 monasteries worldwide, but the masters brewers are only seven of them: six in Belgium (Orval, Chimay, Westvleteren, Rochefort, Westmalle and Achel) and one in Holland (Koningshoeven). They have the right to use the Authentic Trappist Product logo.

Trappist beers are of Ale , fermented and bottled and distributed on the surface only in glass . Depending on the strength and color they fall into three broad categories: single (up to 7% volume alcohol), doubles (8% volume alcohol) and triples (9% volume alcohol)

High price in hypermarkets in Romania for Chimay may seem prohibitive. Therefore the Trappist beers recommend "La Trappe" produced by Dutch monastery Koninshoeven a significantly lower price.
